This is a 5-week programme that prepares students for advancement through management levels, especially in the security industry. The course also facilitates progression to other postgraduate higher education options.

Security has become one of the most challenging areas for organisations today. The impact of security can be found at all levels from the basic individual to a global concern. The threats and concerns that exist in this area imply that security skills and competences are in significant demand in organisations and in society.

Participation in this course will allow you to engage with other security professionals and academics to embrace theories and practices that are required to help organisations defend their businesses against crime and other threats. In this course you will:

  • Study at one of Ireland’s leading universities 
  • Develop skills in dealing with problems in the security industry 
  • Collaborate with skilled professionals in your class cohort 
  • Work with accomplished academics and experienced industry practitioners
  • Study in a way that is convenient to your work demands


Applicants should have a minimum 2.2 grade, honours (level 8) degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent. However, this Certificate is open to experienced professionals who do not hold a primary degree. We are especially keen encourage applications from:

1. Returners: Homemakers or those with other caring duties or economically dependent on a partner or spouse for a minimum period of 9 of the previous 12 months.
2. The unemployed or formerly self- employed (Unemployed applicants will also be required to meet additional DEASP related criteria)
3. People in employment, if they meet the nationality/visa requirement and residency criteria

Note that documentation supporting applicant’s status will be required as part of the application for free fees process via PAC.

Minimum English language requirements:

Applicants for whom English is not their first language are required to demonstrate their proficiency in English in order to benefit fully from their course of study. For information about English language tests accepted and required scores, please see here. The requirements specified are applicable for both EU and International applicants.

Course Structure

The Certificate will be delivered online, over consecutive Friday mornings, in five thematic meetings.

Introduction and Orientation (morning of Friday, 29 October 29)

Competitive Strategy (morning of Friday, 05 November)

Content includes a high-level keynote address, together with relevant cases for discussion

Organisational Change (morning of Friday, 12 November)

Content includes a high-level keynote address, together with relevant cases for discussion

Technology and Security (morning of Friday, 19 November)

Content includes a high-level keynote address, together with relevant cases for discussion

Strategic Leadership (morning of Friday, 26 November)

Content includes a high-level keynote address, together with relevant cases for discussion

Course Duration: 5 Weeks

This course will be of benefit to mid-career professionals looking to build their knowledge in Strategic Leadership & Organisational Change. The skills acquired will assist professionals in leading change in their organisation especially, but not exclusively, in the security sector.
