Important Notes for Application
- The onus is on the applicant to advise The Admissions Office that they are currently pursuing an access course or have completed one and send their results to the Office (see points on this below).
- Applicants must apply via CAO.
- Intending applicants should tick the "FE" box on the CAO. Applicants may apply before May 1st annually.
- The applicant must email a transcript of their official access course results to The Admissions Office (E: admissions@mu.ie) with their CAO number, for assessment.
- Results must be received by The Admissions Office before 31 July in the year of application.
Required criteria for an approved access course:
- A least one year’s duration
- A recognised HEI or CFE provider, or equivalent (e.g. other EU qualifications at Level 5 on the NFQ).
Rules for matriculation
In the case of the following degrees, successful completion of an approved access course, and meeting the normal university selection procedures will satisfy admission criteria:
- MH103 Bachelor of Music
- MH116 BSocSc Community & Youth Work (full-time, in service)
- For application into MH101 Bachelor of Arts degree programme, a related higher education access course with 60% overall is required.
- For application into MH201 Bachelor of Science, a related science programme, which includes Mathematics, with an overall grade of 60% and to include a minimum 50% grade attainment in Mathematics is required.
- For application into MH404 Business (BMA/INB/MKT/BGC/IGC/MGC), a related higher education access course with 60% overall and to include a minimum 50% grade attainment in Mathematics is required.
- For application into MH601 and/or MH602 Computer Science, a related higher education access course with 60% overall and to include a minimum 50% grade attainment in Mathematics is required.
Note: The maths requirement may be met in the Leaving Certificate, GC(S)E or equivalent
Currently the above routes are the only pathways available for students taking access courses who are not of mature years.
