The Erasmus+ funded Jean Monnet Chair in EU Law and Fundamental Rights was awarded to Professor Tobias Lock (2020-2023) to firmly establish Maynooth University and its School of Law and Criminology as a centre of excellence for the study and research of EU law.
The Chair’s activities centre on an ambitious teaching and research programme in EU law focusing on EU fundamental rights law offered to diverse audiences. The Chair provides specialist teaching in EU law by offering a suite of advanced EU law modules, all of which place a strong emphasis on EU fundamental rights. Students benefit from additional activities, such as debates; study visits; and visits by renowned academics and practitioners. The Chair also organises the newly established EU Law Discussion Group, which helps to foster a strong research culture in EU Law at the Law Department. The Chair is further in the process of undertaking a research project on EU Fundamental Rights Law, which will result in various academic publications and open educational resources. This research project forms the basis of the Chair’s outreach activities, which feature workshops, an annual lecture and activities aimed at the general public.
Bronnadh an Chathaoir Jean Monnet i nDlí AE agus i gCearta Bunúsacha, atá maoinithe ag Erasmus+, ar an Ollamh Tobias Lock (2020-2023) chun Ollscoil Mhá Nuad agus Scoil an Dlí agus na Coireolaíochta ina bhfuil sé ag obair a dheimhniú mar ionad bairr feabhais le dul i mbun staidéir agus taighde ar dhlí AE.
Baineann gníomhaíochtaí na Cathaoireach go mór le clár teagaisc agus taighde uaillmhianach i ndlí AE ar chearta bunúsacha a thairgtear do ghrúpaí éagsúla. Cuireann an Chathaoir teagasc speisialaithe i ndlí AE ar fáil sa chaoi go mbíonn roinnt ardmhodúl dlí AE á tairiscint aici, a bhfuil an-bhéim curtha ar chearta bunúsacha AE i ngach aon cheann acu. Baineann mic léinn tairbhe as gníomhaíochtaí sa bhreis, lena n-áirítear díospóireachtaí; cuairteanna staidéir; agus cuairteanna ó acadóirí agus ó chleachtóirí aitheanta. Cuireann an Chathaoir an Pléghrúpa ar Dhlí AE nua-bhunaithe in eagar, pléghrúpa a chothaíonn cultúr taighde láidir i nDlí AE sa Roinn Dlí. Anuas air sin, tá an Chathaoir i lár an phróisis chun tabhairt faoi thionscadal taighde ar Dhlí AE ar Chearta Bhunúsacha, a mbeidh foilseacháin acadúla agus acmhainní oideachais oscailte mar thoradh air. Tá an tionscadal taighde seo i gcroílár ghníomhaíochtaí for-rochtana na Cathaoireach, agus ina measc bíonn léacht bhliantúil agus gníomhaíochtaí dírithe ar an bpobal ginearálta.
